Study #7: CHET

Study #7: CHET

CHET IN THE WORD CHATA ( SIN )

No word study of CHET is complete without a discussion about CHATA ( SIN ).

The pictorials have a negative and positive meaning:

חָטָא

1. CHET = Fence
2. TET = Snake, what surrounds us.
3. ALEF = Ox, G_D as our strong leader.

In the negative, CHATA is the fence of the Snake’s strength.

In the positive, CHATA is the way out of surrounding or engulfing sin by the strength of God through Christ our Shepherd Leader.

In its conventional meaning, CHATA means missing the mark eg. an archer who misses the bull’s eye.

But spiritually it means more – CHATA is when we make a false or mistaken step however unintentional. It is akin to stumbling.

Sin thus becomes its own prison that keeps us from freedom and from doing what is right.

Father G_d, help us to break free from the prison wall ( CHET) of sin ( CHATA ) by looking unto Christ as our door to freedom and forgiveness in Him. Help us to pray Psalm 32:1 that says: “Blessed is he whose transgression is forgiven, whose sin is covered”. Again Isaiah 53:5 reminds us He was wounded for our transgressions, crushed for our iniquites, and bore the sin ( *CHATA’AH) of many. For those of us who trust in His sacrificial death as a sin offering before You, may we be blessed by receiving Your forgiveness and peace ( SHALOM ).
