Study #6: AYIN

AYIN: THE 16TH LETTER OF THE HEBREW ALPHABET

Let us recap the significance of AYIN ( Spiritual Insight ).

What we see on the outside profoundly affects our spiritual condition within.

The Bible specifically warns against the lust of the eye. For the eyes are the windows of our soul.

The phrase “lust of the eyes” is found in 1 John 2:15-17: “Do not love the world or anything in the world. … For everything in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—comes not from the Father but from the world.

Even so, when you think about it, most of the spiritual gifts depends on the AYIN ( Spiritual Insight ) e.g. the word for a prophet who sees visions of the future is SEER ( or See-er ).

It is thus incumbent upon us to see things, situations and people from God’s eternal perspective – from His eyes of love, grace, mercy and forgiveness.

This enables us to tap into His quality of long-suffering – giving grace to others like pre-believers – so that they may respond to the gospel message of salvation in time.

Abba Father, Paul prayed that the church would have its eyes opened to the “riches of His ( Christ’s ) glorious inheritance in the saints” ( Ephesians 1:18 ). Once our spiritual  eyes are opened, we realise that Paul was praying that we would understand how highly we are valued in God’s eyes. Think about it – Jesus is heir to all the heavens and its numberless worlds, and we are His special treasure. It is mind-boggling to realise the redeemed are worth more than the whole universe!
