FIVE DAY MIRACLE
(PART 1)

By Christopher Quah

Being knocked down by a lorry from the front, only to suffer another impact from the car behind in a road accident, a young father of one, Isaiah Lim Wei Jian, was left for dead. Doctors had already given up hope, saying he suffered severe brain injuries, and told his wife Rina Warni Situmorang 26, to prepare for the worst. But God’s ways are above ours. What doctors believed would be an imminent end to a young life, God decided that it would be a five-day miracle.

Isaiah, is the 30 years old of the son of Pastor Johnny Lim and Chella Lim, founders and caretakers of Precious Gem Home. A home which has been tirelessly caring for those children who are abandon, and do not have a family to belong to. Praise the Lord, that He was faithful to the Lim family, and today Isaiah is alive and on his way to recovery.

He recounted the incident that almost took his life.

“I worked part time, as a Panda Rider which is a food delivery service. It was about 7pm and I was on a delivery assignment riding my motorcycle. It was already dark, and the road was badly lit. When I arrived at the Kajang Utama U-turn, a lorry suddenly cut out in front of me and hit me. After that everything went dark,” he recalled.

An oncoming car from behind him was unable to stop and collided into him. The impact of the two vehicles threw him off his motorcycle and onto the hard tar road. Another Panda Rider happened to be nearby immediately called for an ambulance. Unconscious and bleeding heavily, Isaiah was transported by the ambulance to Hospital Kajang.

Five Day Miracle
Isaiah and Rina during happier times

Rina his wife, explained that she was at home nursing her baby when she received a call from the hospital. Before the phone call, she had been having problems getting Isabelrin, their daughter, to sleep.

“At 7:30pm, my baby woke up and started crying. This was unusual, as she always slept through the night. I tried to give her milk, but she refused and continued to cry until 9pm; the time the hospital called. When I answered the call, Isabelrin became silent. It was as though she knew something bad had happened,” she said.

“The caller, a hospital personnel, told me to rush over to the hospital immediately. My husband had met with an accident and was in critical condition. I was told that he had a severe head injury which had exposed some parts of his brain,” she recalled.

“There was too much bleeding. Just too much. Even the doctors didn’t know where to stitch to stop the bleeding from his head, I was told. At that moment I wanted to faint. I was holding my baby and almost dropped her. My baby in my arms gave me strength not to do so. It was then that I was reminded of what God always said to me in my time alone with Him. It is to be thankful in all circumstances. I saw the baby and remembered God’s goodness in my life. It gave me the strength to call my mother-in-law in order to tell her what had happened,” she explained.

The harrowing scene which greeted Rina as Isaiah was rushed into the hospital

Her mother-in-law had already knew about the accident as she was contacted earlier. But she did not want to inform Rina yet, as she feared Rina would be overwhelmed since so many other things had happened recently to her.

“After giving birth to my daughter I discovered that she had jaundice. So, she had to stay in the hospital for some time for treatment. Just after a week or so, I received a call telling me that my mother had just passed away of a heart attack. She was in her early fifties. Yet through all this I never asked why God allowed these incidents to happen. It was later reported to me, that my mother had died while praying,” Rina explained.

Upon hearing of her husband’s accident, she prayed to God for strength and left for the hospital.

“When I arrived at the hospital, I was brought to the emergency room. There I saw Isaiah, lying on the stretcher, covered in blood. His face was pale, and his eyes were wide open staring blankly at the ceiling. I was horrified at the sight of his limped body, and went weak in my knees,” she recounted.

Isaiah is quickly treated. His head is bandaged multiple times to avoid the bleeding.

“To add to my fears, the staff at the emergency ward asked me to remove his wedding ring from his finger. I imagined the worse, when they instructed me to do so. Was this because they thought he was not going to make it,” she said.

But to her relief it was, so they could put him through a CT scan.

“Then an amazing thing happened. Though he was unconscious, his right hand grabbed onto my wrist, refusing to let go,” she added.

She began to pray non stop for her husband.  Then God brought into remembrance the passage of Isaiah 46:3.

“Listen to me, you descendants of Jacob, all the remnant of the people of Israel, you whom I have upheld since your birth, and have carried since you were born.”

“This verse was the very one that we recited the very night before the accident during our devotion. Remembering that the Lord has upheld me since birth and would continue to do so give me a sense of peace in this situation,” she said. Rina then whispered the verse to Isaiah, even telling him to pray in the Spirit.

“Even though he was unconscious, I believed he could hear me. I told him to remember me and the baby and come back to us,” she recounted.

“I was very scared, but I still prayed and believed God was in control of the situation. When they wheeled him out from the CT scan room, they said his condition was almost like a dead man. But God told me not to fear. It was terrifying, but I continued praying, believing that God allowed all things to happen for a purpose,” she said.
