Study #13: ZAYIN

ZAYIN AND VAV

In classical Hebrew script, ZAYIN is a crowned VAV.

Picture VAV as an upstanding thin column topped with a dash with 3 prongs ( called TAGINS in Hebrew ) which resemble a crown.

So ZAYIN becomes – as it were – the crowning glory of VAV.

This pictogram alone holds so many hidden and coded revelations for us, e.g.

1. Jesus was joined to His Cross by a NAIL ( VAV ) and when He died, He won the Victor’s Crown ( ZAYIN ) over sin, death and the devil. Thus our earthly life of suffering for Christ will earn us the heavenly and eternal Crown of Life.

2. ZAYIN as a Crowned VAV is also seen a scepter. Before Jesus could attain His scepter ( ZAYIN) as the King of kings, He must first live out His destiny for us as the Suffering Servant ( VAV here depicting the sufferings of the Cross ). For us too there is no crowning glory without going through the “fellowship of His sufferings”. ( Philippians 3:10 ).

3. The numerical value of VAV is 6 while ZAYIN’S is 7. Add them together and you have 13 – the number of God’s Love ( AHAVA in Hebrew ).

Father God, it is altogether so awesome how You use the letters and numerals of the Hebrew Alef-Bet to teach us Your Biblical truths. May we understand that the Nail (VAV) is the only way back to Your Love ( AHAVA ) i.e. by the Blood Sacrifice of Your Son to atone for the sins of all mankind. Even the deadly Crown of Thorns upon His Head will one day be our heavenly Crown and Scepter of Righteousness ( ZAYIN ) which will qualify us to rule and reign with Him as kings throughout eternity.
