Study #13: DALET

Study #13: DALET

Why did Jesus call Himself a Door?

DALET as a letter is found in the name of the Tribe of JUDAH from which lineage King David and the prophesied Messiah will come from. In short, the Messiah will be the DOOR into the presence of God ( also known as YAH). His tribe of JUDAH will thus become a people of Yah’s praise.

When Jesus in John 10:9 said ” I am the Door “, He was actually presenting His Messianic credentials to His Jewish audience.

Furthermore as a Shepherd King, he would sit at the gate of the sheep pen ( an allusion to the judgment of a king who sat at the gate of his city )…a king who offered protection to his own people but exclusion and judgment upon his enemies and usurpers.

This points to a
more dramatic picture to the later image in Revelation 3:20 when He as the Risen Christ in all His triumph stands outside His Church of Laodicea knocking at the church’s door for an entrance in.

He offers the grace and mercy of reconcilation in a covenantal meal of forgiveness to those who respond to His voice or implied judgment against those who bar Him out.

Father God, You are ushering in a day of New Beginnings. There will be no room for believers with the mindset of the Laodicean Church whose religiosity was devoid of true worship, whose faith was not tinged with the fear of You nor did they have any inkling of Your impending judgment for their sins. They were actually “running on empty” in their own strength, understanding and self-delusion. They were found wanting when the time for judgment was ripe. And today it is what it was never meant to be – a glorified mess of ruins!
