Study #13: YOD
YOD AS IN YAD ( HAND )
One of my most heart-wrenching experiences in Israel is to visit the Holocaust Museum in Jerusalem called YAD VASHEM.
YAD = Hand
VA = And
SHEM = Name
I never quite understood this unusual title “HAND AND NAME” until I found it came from Isaiah 56:4-5.
The primary meaning of YAD is “hand”. But its secondary meaning is “a memorial “.
Heavenly Father, how does one have closure to this sin against humanity in which 6 million Jews were murdered? YAD VASHEM offers a partial answer: “Memorialise the deeds of their HANDS in a house so that their NAMES will be remembered”. As Elie Wiesel wrote: “For the dead and the living we must bear witness”.
