Study #19: YOD

YOD AND ISRAEL

YOD may appear small and insignificant in the pantheon of the Hebrew alphabets.

But in God’s eyes, the sages say YOD is like the atom – the whole of creation compressed into one.

Thus when He chose Israel to be His Light to the Gentiles, it was not because she was the greatest nation on earth.

On the contrary she was small and insignificant like YOD. But in God’s economy, size does not matter. He still chose Israel to be His representative nation on earth ( Deuteronomy 7:7 ).

Heavenly Father, in Your sovereign election of Israel as Your Chosen Nation, who are we to decry it was a wrong choice? Or that You should have chosen China, India or the United States instead? In this Civil New Year of Rosh Hoshanna, let us celebrate and rejoice in Israel’s continuing existence in the Jewish Year of 5779 ( that began on the 9th of September, 2018 ).
