Study #13: KAF

THE KAF WORD FOR GLORY ( KAVOD ): PART 1

Today we will discuss the meaning of this famous word which is connected to the idea of “weight” or “heaviness”…e.g. the Levitical priests could not stand to minister at the Dedication of Solomon’s Temple when the “weight” of God’s glory fell upon them! ( 1 Kings 8:10-11 )

KAF ( the pictorial of an open palm ) as the modifying keyword for KAVOD bears two related meanings : to cover and to uncover.

Today we shall see what the Pictorials cover:

1. Kaf = God’s Open Palms cover
2. Bet = those in the house of God
3. Dalet = who have chosen to follow Him through the Door of Life.

A good example of such a covering is when Moses asked God for permission to behold His glory ( Exodus 33 ). Knowing that sinful Man cannot behold Him face to face and live, He told Moses He will hide him in the cleft of a rock as His glory passed him by and “cover” him with His Hands so that he may live and see only the back parts of His glory.

Father God, by this merciful token granted to Moses, we understand that KAVOD can serve as Your Protective Hand over our lives. And not only that but Your hands will lead and guide us through the right Door of Life (not Death ) in Christ Jesus.

Read Exodus 33: 18-23( KJV )

18 And he said, I beseech thee, shew me thy glory.

19 And he said, I will make all my goodness pass before thee, and I will proclaim the name of the Lord before thee; and will be gracious to whom I will be gracious, and will shew mercy on whom I will shew mercy.

20 And he said, Thou canst not see my face: for there shall no man see me, and live.

21 And the Lord said, Behold, there is a place by me, and thou shalt stand upon a rock:

22 And it shall come to pass, while my glory passeth by, that I will put thee in a cleft of the rock, and will cover thee with my hand while I pass by:

23 And I will take away mine hand, and thou shalt see my back parts: but my face shall not be seen.
