Study #9: LAMED
LAMED: THE PICTORIAL OF A STAFF OF AUTHORITY ( PART 2)
It is amazing how scriptures come to life once we understand that Jesus is our LAMED – who holds the Staff ( authority ) of a Teacher.
- In the Old Testament, Abraham also held the authority of a teacher.
We are told that:
- God brought him out of Ur and Haran that He may lead him and his family into the Promised Land.
- As he obeyed God step by step, Abraham learned from God, and about God, out of a growing relationship of faith that developed into trust.
- By his example, Genesis 18:19 says Abraham taught his family the way of righteousness.
- In the New Testament, God brought us out of the world to bring us to a new way of living, a life of persevering faith in Christ. We are to learn, not of the letter of the Law, but of the Spirit in the Law ( 2 Cor.3:6 ) for the Law kills – as it was meant to – to bring us to an end of ourselves and into a new life in Him.
Thus Jesus as our Teacher said: ” You call Me Teacher and Lord; and you are right, for so I am ( John 13:13 ).
When He ascended into heaven, He sent us another Teacher in His stead: “…the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will TEACH you all things” ( John 14:26 ).
Father God, the relationship between a teacher and a student cannot be separated as it is mutually beneficial. Indeed it is of the essence of LAMED that teaching and learning of Your Word in the Bible go hand in hand together. How often have teachers remarked that by their students they themselves are taught. We thank You for the teachings of Jesus as recorded in Your Word and for sending The Holy Spirit who helps us to understand the meaning behind the words of Christ. Without such teaching, Your people will perish from lack of knowledge ( Hosea 4:6 )
Hosea 4:6 King James Version (KJV)
6 My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee, that thou shalt be no priest to me: seeing thou hast forgotten the law of thy God, I will also forget thy children.
