3.NEW IDENTITY
” Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!” ( 2 Corinthians 5:17 ).
The promise of the gospel is that faith in Christ brings a new and improved life.
One such phenomenal change is our new identity. We become children of God who are now beloved, accepted, forgiven, chosen.
Let us read Romans 8:5-17.
- Romans 8:14 -16 in particular tells us that we are children of God who are led by the Holy Spirit and entitled to call God our Abba Father.
- Romans 8:17 tells us we are an heir of God and co-heir of Christ i.e. a right to “a part in the heritage; a part in the things of God, together with Christ”.
Abba Father, we are given a new identity of sonship similar to that of Your Son our Lord.This is our new identity in Christ which includes the sharing of Your heritage as part of our sonship, a heritage that includes the blessed hope of glorification.
