MEM: THE 13TH LETTER OF THE HEBREW ALPHABET

MEM PAIRED WITH LAMED

The Hebrew Alphabet often comes in pairs e.g. YOD (Hands) and KAF (Open Palm) are obviously linked together.

MEM is linked with the preceding letter of LAMED and bears study for its hidden gem of revelation.

LAMED = The Shepherd Staff of a Teacher.

MEM = The Word of God quickened by the Holy Spirit.

Jesus our Good Shepherd and Best Teacher teaches us His Living Word (enlightened and quickened by the Holy Spirit into the RHEMA WORD OF GOD).

The author of Hebrews shared his penetrating insight of the Living Word which he described in

Hebrews 4:12 (NIV)

12 “For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart”.

This is exactly what the Living Word of God does for us – it analyses us and shows us our sin.

This is a real breakthrough. For the prophet Jeremiah had lamented: “The heart is deceitful above all things and desperately wicked. Who can know it?” (Jeremiah 17:9). For it is not enough to know how bad we are. We have to have God’s cure, and this is what the Bible gives to us.

Abba Father, only Your Living Word can ” judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart”. It is Your Word that reveals to us our true selves. Are we born of You and are spiritually alive, or are we deceiving ourselves and spiritually dead?  Let us repent for failing to study Your Word. Let us be like David who wrote: ” Search me, O God, and know my heart. Try me, and know my thoughts; see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting” (Psalm 139).
