Study #10: MEM

Study #10: MEM

MEM: THE 13TH LETTER OF THE HEBREW ALPHABET.

Each letter of the Hebew Alphabet  – not only has intrinsic meaning – but each letter also has a numeric value.

MEM has a gematria value of 40 – the number of trial, tribulation and testing.

It is also the 13th letter of the Hebrew Alphabet – a number with a negative meaning of rebellion or a positive meaning of oneness with God.

Taken together, what does 40 and 13 teach us about MEM?

It takes 40 weeks of gestation before a child comes out of a womb. It may take another 40 years of trials and testings for such a child to be spiritually matured. So 40 is a number of maturity. If we include 13 in the positive sense, the maturing process includes an understanding of his or her oneness with God and a lifelong appreciation of His covenantal love.

Abba Father, James summed it up succinctly when he wrote in James 1:2-4 -“Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds, for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness. And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing”.
