TRIUMPHANT TRAINER (PART 2)
By Christopher Quah
In our last article Jackson Ng, a successful trainer had a life changing moment, when he discovered he had cancer which led him back to God. We now continue with his journey towards recovery.
Jackson then went back to Kuching to continue treatment with radiotherapy.
“Back there I experienced another sign. I had to go for the treatment 33 times. 33 was the age when Jesus died. And each radiotherapy session lasted for 40 minutes. 40 is the number of transformations. Like the 40 days, in the wilderness and fasting. So I had to do 40 minutes of treatment for 33 times,” Jackson added.
“This was a confirmation that God was working in my life and I couldn’t escape. During those moments battling with cancer I prayed intensely to God. Many a time, I prayed daily. I also read the Bible intentionally. I began to depend on the Word. God didn’t take away the problem but He gave me strength to go through and that was it. He allowed me to go through the treatment. Although he allowed me to suffer, but He gave me strength to go through it,” Jackson explained.
“So, I had to change my life which was super busy and hectic. There was no rest. It was always work, work, work. I realised I was chasing money, which was my “god”. But the more I chased after money, the more money ran away from me. I came to a realisation that it was not how much. It’s not how hard I worked that allowed me to earn money, but how much God wanted to bless me with. So, after my treatment, I started to do less, and begun to think of how to balance my life. I stopped working at night. I did this by refusing to make any night appointments, as well as going out to look for business through networking. There was no more going out at night to look for business,” Jackson added.
He explained that night time now was more for himself, whereby he would take a good rest, and even go for movies. God also gave him another simple formula for his life.
“I was to fix one thing at a time. This means that one day I would fix the toilet, then next day do the bed. I still apply the formula to this day, and realised I have achieved much,” Jackson added.
“In a way the whole ordeal was a blessing in disguise because it taught me to return to God. To trust in Him again.”
Jackson added that the experience has affected him a lot as a trainer and made him more balanced person.
“I don’t say it anymore that you can become successful on your own. You need a lot of help from human, and a lot of help from God. In order to get His help, you need to get His favour. One of the ways to it, is to avoid doing something you know is wrong. For instance if you know that something is wrong and you still do it, then His favour will disappear. Like for example you almost got the deal, then suddenly it’s gone. It didn’t go through. I felt that way many times. The favour that is already there for you, if you don’t comply with the rules, the favour will be taken away. It’s happening in real time. It’s not tomorrow, it’s not next month. But if you follow the commandment of the law, it seems everything goes in favour of you. Like this year and last year my training business went through a lot of growth compared to the first eighteen years of its existence. We have a lot of students coming to us, and students also brought other students. Things that never happened before begun to happen now,” Jackson testified.
Because of his current faith in God, Jackson says he feels more confident now to face the future.
“I think with the knowledge that God can help me to reach my goals, I go ahead with fear and courage combined. Fear, because I don’t know what the future hold and I cannot do it on my own, but with courage knowing that God is helping me. If I were to do it on my own, I would be very scared. I don’t have the money to sustain myself. Humanly speaking, I am fearful but when I know God can supply, I have more courage. Now, I just do my work and know that God will handle everything else for me. God is bringing a lot of interesting people into my life. They give me a lot of encouragement all the way. I got a lot of good people to help me. I know they are sent to help me, because I am on a bigger mission to do even more,” Jackson added.
This humbling experience also has given Jackson a new perspective in life. He adds that although he has written many books on training, his latest book is one about brokenness.
“The latest one I see it as an assignment and not really in alignment with my training program as my training program is about presentation of skills, but this one is about brokenness,” Jackson said.
He added that the reason why he wrote the book was because he realized that he was surrounded by a lot of broken people.
“I felt that these people needed hope and they needed help so I wrote this book. I was inspired to do this, after seeing Sarawak Befrienders starting their call centre here at a place where I had my venue too. I saw them do it every day. They have the heart to help others, those broken people. I wanted to do the same, but unlike them I do not have the time to stay at the phone the whole day and wait for calls. Then an idea came to me. I might not be able to be there to answer calls, but maybe I can write a book for those people who are emotionally and mentally suffering. So I did, and titled it “You Are A Masterpiece.” But this book is more than just to help the broken. It is also for people who might not be suffering but they are clueless in their direction. They do everything wrong in their life and say that they have no money. They do everything wrong because they are not clear with their talent their purpose and their direction. So, this is another way my book helps. For those people are emotionally down for a long time, this book will also help them understand that it could be because they need to forgive,” Jackson said.
He added that is there are those who have resentment for a long time and this book can guide them to let go of such resentment. He also mentioned that one of his major inspirations for the book is Nick Vujicic.
“Some people are handicap and think they are useless. But look at Nick. He goes about inspiring other people. He is another inspiration for me to write this book. Most people do not think like Nick. They too may have been born without legs or hands and they give in to the situation and ended up depending on others for money. They are more than just handicap on the outside but also in the emotions. So I hope this book will inspire them. I myself am helping someone who is emotionally handicap. It was a man who wanted to be a top student at 16 but couldn’t. So, he became emotional depressed. Today he is 26 but still hasn’t recovered. So when I am surrounded but all these people I know they need help,” Jackson explained.
“So, this is my calling. My church pastor, when he read the book was willing to endorse it. A psychiatrist also wrote a forward letter saying anyone who reads Jackson’s book can reduce the risk of mental illness. This sit the statement he put in to show that what I wrote has truth inside. He even wrote a forward too. I know I cannot be a pastor but at least I can help people in the market place to help them see opportunity to come back. Everybody falls but not everybody come back, so this book is training for them to comeback. This book is to teach them how to make a comeback,” Jackson said.
He testifies that he has just managed to have a successful book launch for You Are A Masterpiece on 20th April 2019.
You Are A Masterpiece book will be available in MPH bookstores throughout Malaysia.
