Study #24: AYIN
AYIN: THE 16TH LETTER OF THE HEBREW ALPHABET
THE AYIN WORD: ETZ (TREE) PART 4
WHAT IF ADAM AND EVE ATE OF THE TREE OF LIFE AFTER SINNING?
This tantalising question is answered in Genesis 3:22
Then the Lord God said, “Behold, the man has become like one of Us, knowing good and evil; and now, he might stretch out his hand, and take also from the tree of life, and eat, and live forever” (Genesis 3:22)
This seems to imply that Adam and Eve could have eaten from the Tree of Life after they sinned to live forever.
Had they been permitted to do so, then they would have been forced to live eternally in a sin-cursed world.
But God had a better plan in place— one of redemption in Jesus Christ – with a New Heaven and New Earth that would not be cursed.
So, He banished Adam and Eve from the Garden of Eden.
Genesis 3:23-24 King James Version (KJV)
23 Therefore the Lord God sent him forth from the garden of Eden, to till the ground from whence he was taken.
24 So he drove out the man; and he placed at the east of the garden of Eden Cherubims, and a flaming sword which turned every way, to keep the way of the tree of life.
ABBA FATHER, You stopped them from trying to attain eternal life in a sin-cursed world. By Your loving and merciful gesture, You demonstrated Your grace in refusing to allow mankind to live eternally in a world filled with sorrow and suffering. Instead, You have provided the way – through the sacrificial death of Your Son – for us to enjoy eternal life in a place where there is no more death, sorrow, pain, or curse (Revelation 21:3-4; 22:3).
