Study #29: AYIN

Study #29: AYIN

AYIN: THE 16TH LETTER OF THE HEBREW ALPHABET

THE AYIN WORD: ETZ (TREE) PART 5

THE NEW JERUSALEM (PART 4)

Yesterday we studied Jesus’ teaching on the reality of Heaven.

But He warned against a wrong perspective of eternity in a dire parable recorded in

Luke 12:15.

There a very rich and successful farmer had an abundance of crops. And he planned to build extra barns in anticipation of future gains. He lived as if life and security were all about what one accumulates in life.

And he would probably like Boaz sleep the night over to guard his hoard of grain not realising he would be- symbolically – buried by his wealth.

Jesus warned against such greed: ” Life does not consist in an abundance of things” (Luke 12:15).

But the world will mourn him as a “wildly successful entrepreneur”. And Fortune Magazine will quote his words verbatim as a lifestyle guru:  “Take life easy; eat, drink and be merry”.

But God has the last word and calls him a fool adding:  “This very night your life will be demanded from you”.

ABBA FATHER, let us have Your perspective of eternity so that we do not cling onto our possessions and material wealth. Let us remember that in all our getting, we must not forget to pursue eternal life. For only a fool will give his life for what ultimately does not matter. As our Lord said: “This is how it will be with whoever stores up things for themselves but is not rich toward God” (Luke 12:18-21).
