Study #42: AYIN
AYIN: THE 16TH LETTER OF THE HEBREW ALPHABET
AYIN AND JACOB’S LADDER (PART 1)
When Jacob was on the run from Esau, he had a dream of God’s Ladder coming down from heaven. When he awoke, He built an altar there at Luz (Bethel) to commemorate this phenomenon.
Genesis 28: 11-12 records this amazing event for us.
“And he lighted upon a certain place, and tarried there all night, because the sun was set; and he took of the stones of that place, and put his pillows, and lay down in that place to sleep. And he dreamed, and behold a ladder set up on the earth, and the top of it reached to heaven; and behold the angels of God ascending and descending on it.”
The word translated Ladder is SULLAM. This Hebrew word appears nowhere else in scripture.
SULLAM is spelt with 3 letters (Samech, Lamed, Mem):
Samech has the number 60.
Lamed is the number 30
Mem is the number 40.
Added together, SULLAM holds the number 130.
Coincidentally the gematria for AYIN as a word (Ayin, Yod, Nun) also adds up to 130:
Ayin = 70
Yod = 10
Nun = 50
So what is the meaning of SULLAM as viewed by our spiritual eyes of AYIN?
The Apostle John, who was called the beloved disciple of Yeshua, mentions another Ladder to Heaven. John quotes Yeshua as saying in John 1:51.
“Verily, verily, I say unto you, Hereafter ye shall see heaven open, and the angels of God ascending and descending upon the Son of man.”
ABBA FATHER, Yeshua is Himself the Ladder, the Sullam. Our access to heaven is not just through Him. He is the access. He does not merely point the way to the Father in Heaven. He is the Way, the one and only Ladder that bridges Heaven and Earth.
