The Life Saver Club

The Life Saver Club

[post-views]

By Tek Chong

Long ago I wrote this parable for Asian Beacon.  I have updated it as I feel we need to remind ourselves of the Great Commission of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Along a certain seashore there was a favourite spot for surfers where the waves were big, and the current were strong. But alas that was also the place where many fatal accidents occur. A small band of life savers decided to congregate there to provide aid and save lives.

The grateful survivors decided to join them in saving lives. Soon a small club was formed. A simple shed was built at the spot. Lifesaving skill classes were conducted. They called the shed a Life Saver Centre. The membership grew. They registered as a Life Saver Club.

Members contributed to renovate, and more amenities were added to the Club. The membership increased as warm fellowship developed. Soon a chef was employed to run a boutique restaurant in the club. The special Malaysian hawker cuisine was much appreciated.

Before long, a small number of members decided to lobby for the Club to be relocated to a more convenient place nearer the city. Besides, the popular restaurant needed more space.

So, the club relocated, and the restaurant attracted more customers. They renamed themselves the Good Life Saver Recreation Club.

But as more surfers were drowned at the former site, a small group of life savers decided to return to the abandoned club.  A new Life Saver Club was started.

Editor’s Note: The servants of the Lord may be called to various places, but the Lord still cares for the Great Commission and for the salvation of the people right where we are.
