Growing Leaders by Chua Wee Hian
A book reviewed by Tek & Goldie Chong
Chua Wee Hian has for many years been contributing his column NOTES & QUOTES in our blog Deargoldie.com* We review his latest book:
We got to know Wee Hian in 1970. Together with his wife, King Ling, we were involved in writing Lovers for Life. This was the first book by Asian authors on Christian marriage and family life. Published the following year, it became a best seller. We benefited much from working closely with them, and in the process, we were wonderfully mentored.
Wee Hian was the first Asian to exercise global leadership through the International Fellowship of Evangelical Students. For 19 years, he led IFES to pioneer national student movements, and he and his staff team equipped generations of student leaders. Some of these are because of Presidents of their nations, Archbishops, and deans of university faculties. On leaving student work in 1991, Wee Hian pastored an international congregation right in the heart of London, where many were motivated to extend the frontiers of God’s kingdom.
Wee Hian currently mentors several Christians in the marketplace and pastors engaged in church planting.
Growing Leaders grapple with key leadership issues. How do leaders add value to the lives of those they serve? The rise and fall of leaders depend very much on the company they keep – soaring with eagles or lingering with ducks. Other topics include vulnerability, leaving a lasting legacy, facing old age, welcoming feedback. All are written from his personal life story; he writes of the peaks and the pits of leadership. His stories will touch minds and hearts and galvanise many to grow as servant leaders.
There are references to his ministry in Malaysia and a local spiritual giant he respects and admires. Several chapters end with THINK! PRAY! PLAN! Wee Hian invites readers to respond.

Growing Leaders is available in hard copy and E-Book format.
