From Tek & Goldie: “God’s Hand is on Marcus” was the first article on Marcus’ life published in Asian Beacon nearly 30 years ago. This is a follow-up by Boxson of life today, and is a remarkable, touching, and miraculous account. Boxson and Kristin, who are dear friends we have known for 12 years, shared this testimony with us when we visited them in Malacca in February 2026.
Exactly 30 years ago, I shared in Asian Beacon the miraculous healing in 1994 of my then 12-year-old son, Marcus, who was diagnosed with Stage 2 malignant brain tumour, medulloblastoma.
The primary tumour was the size of an egg and was removed by surgery but the the tumour seedlings that had spread inside the brain could not be removed surgically without damaging the brain. But our God caused the seedlings to miraculously disappear even before the start of radiation.
A blessing also came out of this ordeal. Two days after Marcus was admitted to Subang Jaya Medical Centre in Kuala Lumpur, I decided to go back to Malacca for a day to clear outstanding matters. Upon my arrival, I went straight to my late mother and my late mother-in-law to brief them on Marcus’ condition.
As idol and ancestral worshippers, I knew they would seek all kinds of spirits and temple mediums for my son. I forbade them to do so but instead asked them to call upon the name of Jesus for healing of Marcus.
A vow fulfilled
I was then just a three-year-old Christian hardly grounded in the Word of God, yet I was led to act thus. On hindsight, I know it was the prompting of the Holy Spirit within me.
Three years later when Marcus was completely well and living a normal life, my wife and I had a pleasant surprise when my late mother out of the blue told us she wanted the ancestral altar in her home removed. She said she wanted to pray to Jesus only!
Later, we came to know that since the day I asked her to pray to Jesus, she had been praying to Him to heal her eldest grandson. She had even made a vow that should He heal her grandson, she would give up all idol and ancestral worship to follow Him. Praise God for the salvation of my late mother through the ordeal we had gone through.
Since the day she gave up ancestral worship, she faithfully attended church and prayed unceasingly for the well-being of her children and grandchildren until she went home to her Saviour.
In the shadow of the Almighty
After the initial victory for Marcus’ life, the enemy did not stop attacking him.
Psalm 91:4 (NKJV) He shall cover you with His feathers, And under His wings you shall take refuge; His truth shall be your shield and buckler. Through the years, this verse has been real to me and my family. Through all the challenging moments, our God was always there to shield him from of the darts of the enemy and to deliver him.
In 2014, Marcus came down with a very severe headache for days. At first, I feared it was a recurrence of the brain tumour. However, the MRI scan showed that it was only a very severe migraine which could be cleared with medication. God had also used this incident to deal with my fear and to trust Him completely.
The Lord has continued to show His love and faithfulness to Marcus.
His oncologist had informed us that he would not be able to father any children after his brain radiation. Yet, his wife conceived just one month after their marriage in 2016. They could have had more children but decided to stay at two. Medical science cannot stand in the glory of God!
God, our shield and buckler
Marcus has continued to face storms in his life, but the Lord has preserved him.
In 2017, he met with a very serious road accident when the driver of a stolen vehicle crashed into his car. Marcus’ car was a complete wreck (100% written off) but unbelievably, he was not injured! His then 3-month-old daughter was in a car seat at the back, and she survived with only a fractured thigh.
In November 2022, Marcus suffered a stroke in Malacca. He was rushed to Kuala Lumpur the same evening but was only admitted to the hospital the following Monday due to the long weekend holiday.
By God’s mercy, he suffered no permanent damage. He was discharged a few days later, back as his normal self.
Today, my son continues to live life fully, 32 years after the first miraculous healing of the brain tumour. He is blessed with a faithful wife and two beautiful daughters aged 9 and 5. Marcus and his wife are also blessed with niche careers in their respective professions.
Fear not, for I am with you; Be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, Yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand. – Isaiah 41:10 (NKJV)
