In 1969, missionary Ben Sawatsky planted a small seed: an in-house publication for Petaling Jaya Evangelical Free Church. Nurtured by our first Malaysian editors, Dr Chong Kwong Tek and Goldie, and sustained by faithful partners like you, that seed grew into Asian Beacon – Malaysia’s longest-running Christian print magazine, and a trusted companion to generations of believers.
Fifty years on, the world looks different. Reading habits have shifted, and print ministry now lives in a digital-first age. After much prayer and counsel, we’re honouring this legacy not by holding on, but by stepping forward into a new chapter: Light by Asian Beacon.
Light is a premium, print-first magazine curated to be experienced, shared, and kept. With a sharper editorial focus and elevated art direction, we’re speaking to a new generation of millennial professionals and seekers who are asking honest questions about faith.
Gone is the dense, text-heavy format of old. In its place: a visual, lifestyle-driven narrative exploring what it means to live out faith in today’s culture – in the workplace and public life, among Christian creatives and leaders, at home and in private moments.
Published twice a year, each issue of Light pairs real stories of God at work with striking photography and artwork. It is an invitation to pause, reflect, and be drawn back to Him.
We’d love for you to be part of this new season. More than something to keep for yourself, Light is curated to be shared – in office spaces, cafes, boutiques, with friends, and passed to those who may be encountering faith for the very first time.

Journey With Us!
Beyond a single volume, we’re looking for people who believe that faith stories carry weight and potential. A page turned today could plant a seed that takes root years from now. If that’s a harvest worth sowing into, we’d love to hear from you. Write to us at editorial@asianbeacon.org.
Your prayers and partnership keep Asian Beacon a vibrant, relevant voice for today’s generation and those still to come.
Some of the best stories are the ones still being written, and we’re grateful you’re part of ours, for His glory.
Still writing,
Deborah Chan, Chief Editor and Michelle Chun, 2026/27 Chairperson
