Song Maker

An initiative by the Malaysian Worship Collective

He put a new song in my mouth,

a song of praise to our God.

Many will see and fear,

and put their trust in the Lord.

Singing is one of the ways we raise a hallelujah to the Lord our God. In fact, we don’t sing with just our mouth, our singing comes from our spirit because He who has created us will put a new song in our mouth as we praise and worship Him in thanksgiving and awe. Through these songs, people will come to see and hear of the glory of God. A good question would be, “Where are these songs that He has put in our mouth?”

Our ministry at the Malaysian Worship Collective brought us to different corners of our country, especially before the pandemic hit the world. Everywhere we went, there were whispers of new songs rising from His people. Songs in different native languages and sounds – all lifting praises to the Lord. Some of these songs remained behind the doors of local churches, others tried to reach beyond its circle of fellowship groups. Most often than not, many of these songwriters simply did not know how to produce their songs professionally so that the songs can be a greater blessing to our Malaysian church.

Realizing the challenges faced by these songwriters and the need of our Church for new Malaysian worship songs, we decided to initiate a mentorship program where we bring together a group of experienced, seasoned songwriters in the Church to mentor aspiring songwriters to transform their demos into well-produced songs that the Church can use when we praise and worship God. This program is called Song Maker.

Song Maker is a 5-month worship songwriting and production mentoring circle where aspiring songwriters will attend lessons on how to turn their demos into well-produced songs and be coached by mentors who will journey with them from the beginning to the end. Participants would not only be equipped with the knowledge and skills in songwriting and production, but they would also understand the foundation and importance of theological soundness to the lyrics they write. At the end of the course, each participant would have produced at least a song that can be released and shared with the churches.
