The Awesome Support of Praying Friends

How did our family become infected?

My eldest son Joshua went for his Covid19 PCR test on July 8, 2021, and I remember it vividly. He was confirmed positive the following day.

We then confine him to his room. We began him on Ivermectin and other supplements. As a family, we used the same as prevention until we ran out of some of them. Then my youngest son became ill, followed by my second son. They were both feverish and had lost their sense of taste. We kept the boys quarantined in their respective rooms and continued to care for them. While the boys were recovering well, Caleb and I both developed fevers and lost our appetites a few days later.

Caleb awoke on July 18th, spitting blood and out of breath. I was on the couch, struggling to breathe as well. My eldest son became concerned and decided that we should both be admitted to the hospital. Two ambulances arrived, took us to a government hospital, and dropped us off.

At the hospital

I was wheeled into the hospital, not to a hospital ward, but to a makeshift area. My husband was placed on a bed at one corner and hooked up to an oxygen tube for support. I was not so fortunate because there was no available bed for me. So I was seated on a wheel chair directly opposite my husband, next to the rubbish area.

Every empty space was occupied by a patient, so the entire facility was crammed with people. We had no idea that the next few days would be the most dreadful experience we could ever face. The condition of the makeshift ward was completely unsanitary. There was little water to drink, and the food served was spicy, making it difficult to eat. We were left hungry and dehydrated.

Prayer support

Friends from all over formed prayer groups, fasted, and prayed for us after learning about our hospitalisation. People we didn’t know even started asking around, hoping to find us a bed in one of the private hospitals, but there were none available. I was so proud of Joshua, but also sorry that at 23 years old, he had to bear such a heavy burden, managing his two younger brothers, his grandmother, and updating the many people who were praying for us on a daily basis.

Uncertainty

The waiting was wearing on us, especially since I was mostly confined to a wheelchair. Every day, I saw people die. It was heartbreaking. I couldn’t do anything but pray for their souls, hoping that they would meet God in their final moments.

It was exhausting to spend two nights on a wheel chair. I couldn’t fall asleep. I was concerned about my husband because he was mostly lying on his bed, barely moving. I prayed to the Lord, requesting that He spare his life and that we be transferred to a private hospital for proper care. I knew that if we stay in this state, our chances of survival would be slim. Psalm 23 came to mind, and I started reciting it. I know Jesus is my good Shepherd, and even though I didn’t understand it at the time, I knew I can put my trust in Him.

I was overjoyed when we learned that a private hospital had two beds ready for us on the third day in the hospital. My joy, however, was short-lived because the doctor in charge told me I could go but my husband was unable to travel. Despite my pleas and assurances that we would bear full responsibility, she was adamant. After a few hours of waiting, I was informed that the private hospital beds had been assigned to others. It was a colossal letdown!

Is it time to go?

On the third night, while sitting on the recliner chair and feeling completely exhausted, I told the Lord, “If it is my time to go home to be with You, I am ready.” I didn’t complain; I just wanted to know what is His plan. He began to download a few lessons that He wanted me to learn from the ordeal into my heart. He also made it clear to me that it wasn’t the right time yet because He has a lot of things He wants me to do. With that, I simply trusted Him and rested. He must have put me to sleep because I have no recollection of what happened after that.

Help at last

The following day, good news arrived in the morning. I was told that KPJ Damansara has set aside a VVIP suite for my husband’s arrival. Dr Lim from SIB KL deserves our heartfelt gratitude. God is so good. My son texted me less than an hour later, “Columbia Hospital Puchong has a bed for you.” I owe my utmost gratitude to Dr Vivian from Puchong.

The ambulance for me arrived first. I thanked God for a second chance at life for both me and Caleb the moment I saw the sky as I was placed on the stretcher.

Upon arrival at Columbia Hospital, tests and X-rays were performed. My lungs were found to be 80 percent infected, and I was diagnosed with pneumonia. I’m in a critical condition, according to the doctor, and if I don’t improve in a day or two, I’ll be intubated with a 50/50 chance of survival.

I was concerned when I heard this, but I know God will provide for me in some way. To reassure me, the Lord gave me the song “Strength of My Life.”

I’m grateful to kind business partners who sent me a plethora of supplements. So, in addition to the medication prescribed by the doctors, I was taking high-potency Ivermectin, as well as Bromelain, Curcumin, Omega 3, Vitamin D, and Aloe Vera drink. Friends from all over the world prayed for us.

Then the miracle occurred. On day one, my C Reactive Protein level was at an all-time high of 173 mg/L. On the sixth day, it had dropped to 11 mg/L and was no longer traceable on the eighth. “Wow, this is very fast,” my doctor exclaimed, surprised. My medical report improved from extremely poor to excellent! I did everything I was told on a daily basis. I was working hard every day, proning for 16 hours a day and doing breathing exercises with the physiotherapist. The doctors wanted to see my oxygen level at 96 or higher while I was in the intensive care unit. I then told the Lord that our number is 98. Praise God each night, my oxygen saturation level was 98. I didn’t have a fever from the start, and every blood test result showed that my organs were in good shape. The doctors were overjoyed.

Oxygen level at 98

Answered Prayer

On the 12th day, I was transferred to the regular ward and given 12L of oxygen support. I informed the doctor that I needed to be home before 5th of August because it is my birthday and my friends wanted to celebrate with me. She laughed and said she’d let me go home if my oxygen support was reduced from 12L to 5L. So I asked my friends to pray for us. God answered prayer once more. My oxygen support was reduced to 5L on August 3rd, and I was discharged.

Caleb was receiving good care in another hospital and was doing well each day. He was also discharged on the same day!

I must say that throughout the entire near-death experience for both of us, so many wonderful caring friends stood in prayer in solidarity with us. Churches, ministries, and business partners were constantly on the lookout for private hospitals for us. Home cell friends cooked dinner and bought supplies for my three sons and my mother at home. Friends from all over including overseas ordered supplements and had them delivered to our house.

Words cannot express how grateful we are to everyone who helped, stood in the gap, fasted, cried, and prayed for our recovery. Our hearts are filled with gratitude to God for each kind and caring soul.

One message is clear and unmistakable. I was reminded by the Lord that we are the salt and light of the world. He allowed me to go through the Covid19 ordeal so that I could understand the misery and pain that others are experiencing. He says that this is an opportunity for the church to shine through its good works. He reminded me of the early church, when many people were added on a daily basis as a result of the believers’ good works. “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven,” we are told. Matthew 5:16.

We want to express our gratitude and acknowledge that our lives are completely dependent on our Lord Jesus Christ, Who, through His grace and mercy, gave us a second chance at life. Forever and ever, we give Him all glory, praise, and worship. Amen.
