Bald Heads And Easter

BALD HEADS AND EASTER

[post-views]

By Pastor Dr Philip Lyn

Two pastors were riding in a car when it ran over a rabbit. The Pentecostal pastor got out and tried to revive the animal through prayer but failed. The bald Anglican priest then got out, rubbed the rabbit with some oil and.. hey presto!… up it jumped and scampered off. “What powerful stuff did you use?” asked the Pentecostal pastor. “Oh,” said the Anglican priest, “That was my hair (hare)-raising lotion!”

Many years ago, my hair fell out. I was bald for nine months and became the target of some painful jokes like: “Philip, in these years, I’ve seen you pass through three types of hairstyles: side-parting, center-parting and now departing!” Here’s another one. Those balding in the front are great thinkers, those balding on the back are great lovers, those balding front and back (like I was then)… think they are great lovers! But the bald fight back with this one: God created two types of heads: defective ones and perfect ones. Defective ones covered with hair. The perfect ones he left bald! Peace bro!

For months during my bald season, my favourite Bible verse was Judges 16:22 (NLT) “But before long, his hair began to grow back.” It eventually did after much prayer. Quacks still make wild claims today they can make “dead” (hair) rise again. Actually, the only true “rising-from-the-dead” story is Easter. Not just any mythical resurrection but a bodily one. Jesus rose from the dead physically to show us that death and hell have been conquered, that the eternal life He promises us is true. He is the only one who has passed through death to life.

Christian resurrection is therefore not about a disembodied soul wandering about in the afterlife. We believe in the actual physical resurrection from the dead when we will have new glorified bodies that we might be with Him forevermore. This is the great message of Easter. The empty tomb is its proof! But baldheads that regrow hair will always be, for me, a perpetual reminder!
