Study #10: DALET

Ancient Paleo-Hebrew script depicts DALET not as a wooden door but a tent flap as an opening.

This fits another root word DALA ( Strong’s #1802 ) which shows a picture of a piece of cloth or skin creating a door that is hanging down.

I could relate this thought with the Temple Veil that divided the Holy of Holies from the Holy Place.

When Jesus died on the Cross, this Temple Veil was torn into two by the hand of God from up to down as recorded in Matthew 27:51 ” At that moment the curtain on the temple was torn in two from TOP TO BOTTOM. And the earth shook, and the rocks were split”.

The historian Josephus described this curtain as made of linen as thick as our last finger is long and four horses at its four corners could not tear it as such. Only God’s hand can do it.

This miracle has a symbolic message for us: the Dalet ( Door ) that separated man from God’s Holy Presence is now open to us to enter in.

It also shows the Father Heart of God in tandem to Jewish customs: when a son dies before his father, the latter rends his garments. God rended the Temple Veil to show His heart for us when His Son died on the Cross as the Door ( DALET ) is now open for His grace and mercy.

Father God, DALET has so much to teach us. But the author of the Book of Hebrews encourages us with this exceptional revelation found in Hebrews 4:16: ” Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need”.
