Study #10: LAMED
LAMED: THE PICTORIAL OF A STAFF OF AUTHORITY ( PART 3 )
From this series we know that the Staff of LAMED represents authority, the authority to teach and to chastise like our Good Shepherd.
But who among His students are those qualified to teach? Must they first have a bible degree?
Jesus Himself did not – unlike Paul – graduate from the School of the Pharisees based in Jerusalem as the Council of the Sanhedrin.
But His teaching authority astonished the Pharisees like Nicodemus.
For who were his disciples but untutored Galilean fishermen? Yet why did the Book of Acts commend them for turning the world upside down or the right side up? ( Acts 17:6 ).
Let us look at the case of Aaron’s rod that budded and fruited in God’s Presence within the Tabernacle of Moses. When Aaron’s authority was challenged by Korah, the disputants all subjected their staffs to God as the final arbitrator. When Aaron’s dead rod of almond wood budded and fruited overnight, it was a prophetic sign for us all about the future resurrection life in Christ empowered by the Holy Spirit.
Heavenly Father, You look to fruit – the Fruit of the Spirit within us – as the proper qualification of a teacher who wields authority. That Aaron’s rod budded and fruited overnight is a sign of Aaron’s authority over the other Levites as the first among equals – that only his family ( Aaronites ) bear the authority to father a line of the Chief High Priest. For us, it is a lesson to all teachers that to wield authority that they must bear the Fruit of the Spirit foremost…to teach with Your Chesed and Agape Love – just like Jesus our Great High Priest ( Hebrews 4: 14-16 ).
Hebrews 4:14-16 New International Version (NIV)
Jesus the Great High Priest
14 Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has ascended into heaven, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to the faith we profess.15 For we do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are yet he did not sin.
16 Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.
