Study #18: LAMED
LAMED: THE GOAD OF DISCIPLESHIP ( PART 2 )
Classic examples of mentoring first-hand are seen in the relationship between:
- Moses and Joshua
- Elijah and Elisha
- Paul and Timothy.
Joshua served as Moses’ general-in-training for decades before he was appointed to lead Israel.
Elijah discipled Elisha who had to start his apprenticeship as a water-bearer to wash the hands of the prophet or offer him a drink. But such lessons on humility equipped Elisha with the skills he would need for a ” double portion” ministry.
Paul carefully inculcated in Timothy a love for God’s Word so that he would be fully equipped to continue the apostle’s vision in his own ministry.
Heavenly Father, the GOAD of LAMED became a YOKE i.e. being equally yoked together for the work of ministry. Patience, Humility and Obedience are the prime virtues emphasized as part of a disciple’s growing character. Indeed Paul enjoined us all to “imitate me as I imitate Christ” ( 1 Corinthians 11:1 )
