Study #1: NUN

Study #1: NUN

NUN: THE 14TH LETTER OF THE HEBREW ALPHABET

NUN like MEM has two forms: the normative and the final form (NUN  SUFIT).

These two forms are found in the one word for NUN – spelt Nun (Normative), Vav, Nun (Final).

If you look at the Normative Nun, it is a pictorial of a submissive man bent in prayer.

The Final Nun resembles an upright and standing man.

Thus NUN is a pictorial of a man who can stand righteously before God and man because of his humility.

In the Old Testament, Numbers 12:3 (NIV) tells us Moses was such a man. Verse 3 reads:

“Now Moses was a very humble man, more humble than anyone”.

But in the New Testament, we may look to another example, far greater than Moses, who said, “All power is given to Me in heaven and on earth” (Matthew 28:18) and yet added, “I am meek and lowly in heart.” (Matthew 11:29).

Abba Father, NUN teaches us an important lesson – that godly leaders are those who are most submitted to Your will in humility and meekness. Thus You will exalt the humble and resist the proud (1 Peter 5:6). Let us learn from John the Baptist who said of Jesus:

“He must become greater; I must become less.” (John 3:30)
