THE AYIN WORD: ETZ (TREE) PART 5
IF GOD IS LOVING, WHY HELL? (Part 2)
The reality of Hell does not diminish God’s love; it demonstrates it.
Yesterday’s lesson bears a recap:
Question
If God is so holy and humanity is so sinful, why would He spare us from the penalty of Hell that we deserve?
Answer
- Because of His great love, God is not willing that anyone should perish. According to 2 Peter 3:9, He wants everyone to repent of their sins
2 Peter 3:9 (CEV)
The Lord isn’t slow about keeping his promises, as some people think he is. In fact, God is patient, because he wants everyone to turn from sin and no one to be lost.
- Because He desires an intimate relationship with us throughout eternity (John 14:3). As proof, He allowed His Son to be crucified and pay the penalty for our sin (John 3:16).
John 14:1-3 (CEV)
14 Jesus said to his disciples, “Don’t be worried! Have faith in God and have faith in me.2 There are many rooms in my Father’s house. I wouldn’t tell you this, unless it was true. I am going there to prepare a place for each of you. 3 After I have done this, I will come back and take you with me. Then we will be together.
ABBA FATHER, let us be mindful of what we have learnt. We did not deserve to be saved. It is a gift of Your divine grace. This gift came at great expense – the agonizing death of Your Son our Lord on the Cross. We are indeed grateful You saved us in our sinful condition. There was no precondition that we had to clean up our act before we accepted Your gift of salvation. There was nothing we could contribute to the salvation process. It is a free gift. Indeed it is not ” because of works of righteousness we had done, but because of His mercy” (Titus 3:5).
