Study #15: ZAYIN

ZAYIN AND THE ARK OF THE COVENANT

ZAYIN holds a treasure trove of revelation for us – more valuable than hoarding boxes of earthly wealth.

Today we shall study a box too – the Ark of the Covenant topped by a lid called the Mercy Seat. The box itself is masculine in Hebrew whereas the Mercy Seat is feminine. In fact the tangible glory that emanates from this seat ( the Pillar of Cloud by day, the Pillar of Light by night ) is called by a feminine word in Hebrew SHEKINAH – a word not found in the Bible but coined by the Jews to describe this visible manifestation of God’s Presence and Power in the Tabernacle of Moses.

Let us recapt what we have studied so far about ZAYIN – and see how it ties in with the Ark of the Covenant:

1. ZAYIN is a crowned VAV.

2. Just as a woman of valour is the crown of her husband, so ZAYIN , the 7th letter, is the crown of VAV the 6th letter.

3. Proverbs 12:4 – ‘A virtuous woman is the crown to her husband, but she who maketh ashamed is as rotteness to his bones”.

4. The bottom box of the Ark represents Judgment, the Mercy Seat represents Mercy.

Father God, YOUR MERCY ALWAYS TRIUMPHS OVER JUDGEMENT. Likewise the Cross of Mercy and Grace stands over sinful humanity under the condemnation of judgement and death. This revelation will always inspire us to remain in Your steadfast Love that never ceases: ” It is of the Lord’s mercies that we are not consumed, because His compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is Thy faithfulness” ( Lamentations 3: 22-23 ).
