Study #21: ZAYIN

Study #21: ZAYIN

ZAYIN AS A PLOUGH

In Paleo-Hebrew the original pictorial of ZAYIN is a PLOUGH.

In the spiritual sense a PLOUGH is needed to break up the condition of our hardened hearts since we were not born receptive to God’s Word.

In relation to the famous Parable of the Seed, Sower and Soils ( Matthew 13:1-23 ), the Word of God is sown in the heart (v.19). But to be fruitful, the seed of God’s Word must fall in a ploughed heart ready to receive the Right Word at the Right Time.

For the parable teaches us this important truth that Life only comes when the Right Word is sown at the Right Time at the Right Place.

Father God, the Sower who touched our hearts and ploughed it in the first place is none other than our Lord. For His Word in our hearts – through the Holy Spirit given to us ( Romans 5:5 ) – is like a plough or a double-edged sword (symbols of ZAYIN) which turn our hearts inside out as fruitful ground. And He wants us in turn to emulate Him and be a sower of His Word in the hearts of others. May His ZAYIN teach and discipline us to be fruitful soil so that we may bear a fruitful return – some 30 fold, some 60 fold or even a 100 fold ( v.23 ).
