Study #4: DALET
Today we shall contrast the two Adams whose names are linked to DALET.
Adam is spelt Alef, Dalet, Mem in Hebrew. As the first and strong leader of mankind ( Alef ) he had the choice of opening the door of the future ( Dalet ) – the door to eternal life or death.
He made a choice. And when he chose, he chose for all of us. He chose the wrong Mem – the doorway and path that leads to chaos and death. Thus on record, Adam is the first man who opened the door and entered the pathway that leads to death. In short He opened the wrong door!
Thankfully Mem is also the pictogram of water as life-giving. Hence the Second or Last Adam ( Jesus ) reversed the curse of the First Adam by opening the right door for us – back to the Garden of Eden!
Thus one Adam started the story of mankind, the other changed it – from death in the first but life in the second.
Paul summarised the essence of the two doors:
1. ” And so it is written, the first man Adam was made a living soul; the last Adam was made a quickening spirit ” ( 1 Cor.15:45 ).
2. ” Nevertheless death reigned from Adam to Moses, even over them that had not sinned after the similitude of Adam’s transgression, who is the figure of him that was to come ” ( Romans 5:14 ).
Father God, Paul confirmed that the door ( Dalet ) opened by the first Adam leads to chaos, confusion and death ( Mem ). But the door opened by the last Adam leads to the water ( Mem ) of life. ” For as in Adam all die, so also in Christ shall all be made alive ” ( 1 Cor. 15:22 ).
