Study #16: LAMED
THE WORD “ISRAEL” BEGINS WITH A YOD AND ENDS WITH A LAMED
The spelling of ISRAEL ( YIS -RAH-EL ) begins with the smallest letter YOD and ends with the biggest and tallest letter LAMED.
There is a delightful revelation here – for it suggests Israel’s dependence on the Lord.
A good example of such dependence is rain…or more specifically water. Leaving Egypt ( watered by the perennial Nile ) for a dry and thirsty Promised Land is an act of faith on the part of the children of Israel. They now had to look up to their Adonai Jireh to provide all their needs for even mere survival.
To encourage them God said: ” And you shall be to Me a treasure among all the peoples” ( Exodus 19:5 ).
Heavenly Father, Israel is Your AM SEGULAH ( a treasured people ) when they keep Your covenant, acknowledging Your greatness and their smallness. Thus You are their great LAMED (Teacher and King of Kings ) whereas Israel is the lowly YOD, a small hand raised to You in heaven in praise, worship, prayer and supplication. When today’s revelation undergirds our relationship with You, we too will become Your treasured possession.
