Study #8: LAMED

LAMED: THE PICTORIAL OF A STAFF OF AUTHORITY ( PART 1 )

Let us recapt. Yesterday’s devotional linked LAMED to teaching – being prodded to obedience by an ox goad as it were!

Today we shall see LAMED as a staff of authority – what a teacher wields over a student. He is there to teach a student who is also there to learn.

It is a symbiotic relationship that the letters for LAMED spell out:

LAMED = imparting heavenly wisdom to our earthly minds

MEM = so as to discipline the sea of humanity

DALET = to enter into the Door of True Wisdom and be blessed with the Gift of Eternal Life in God’s Presence.

Interestingly the root words with the same spelling of LMD ( e.g. Lamad, Limud, etc ) all point to the discipline of learning to show ourselves approved unto God in every way.

Heavenly Father, this revelation of LAMED in its root form is uncannily linked to the teaching and study of Your Word found in the Old and New Testament. Even in its graphic form, LAMED is the only Hebrew letter that reaches above the line. Indeed our knowledge comes from above. With eternity in view, it concerns things above. And it has to be learned and passed on ( taught ). Thus in Deuteronomy 4:10 You told Moses to ” Assemble the people to Me, that I may let them hear My words so they may learn to fear Me all the days they live on the earth, and that they may teach their children”.
