Study #8: SAMECH
SAMECH: THE 15TH LETTER OF THE HEBREW ALPHABET
THE TWO FACES OF SAMECH (PART 1)
Yesterday we saw SAMECH as a staff one grasps by hand in order to lean one’s full body weight upon.
Today we will see its negative aspect – as a picture of PRIDE or a person who refuses to lean on God but instead leans upon his or her own SAMECH.
PRIDE comes before a fall. Thus Proverbs 3:5-6 is timely in cautioning us of the danger of self-dependence or independence from God which is the essence of PRIDE.
Proverbs 3:5-6 King James Version (KJV)
5 Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.
6 In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.
Abba Father, coincidentally the Gematria of SAMECH is 60 – the number for human pride multiplied tenfold (6×10). Let us walk in humble dependence upon You and Your Word. For You will exalt the humble but resist the proud.
Matthew 18:4
Whosoever therefore shall humble himself as this little child, the same is greatest in the kingdom of heaven
